The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) will see major changes in the IPL franchise, as there will be a mega auction in 2022 (IPL 2022 Mega Auction). Franchisees are allowed to retain a certain number of players before the auction and they always have the opportunity to buy their former players. Nevertheless, the teams take on a completely new look after every 4 year cycle. The franchises will be keen to retain their elite players ahead of the mega-auction for IPL 2022. As per reports, a franchise will be allowed to retain 4 players, while two new teams will be allowed to pick 3 players before the auction.

While there are some confirmed retentions like Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings). At the same time, according to another report, some franchises are thinking of retaining their young players as well. According to the report of The New Indian Express, young players Ishaan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Prithvi Shaw are set to be retained by their respective IPL franchises. Ishaan Kishan is part of Mumbai Indians. Rituraj Gaikwad plays for Chennai Super Kings while Prithvi Shaw has been with Delhi Capitals since 2018.

Of these 3 players, only Ruturaj Gaikwad has given consistent results and won the Orange Cap in IPL 2021 by scoring 635 runs. Ishan Kishan could only manage 241 runs this season and was dropped from the playing XI on several occasions. At the same time, Prithvi Shaw scored 479 runs at a superb strike rate of 159.13, but at the same time his wicket was also weak.

The salary of Ishan Kishan of Mumbai Indians is Rs 6.2 crore. Rituraj Gaikwad had joined Chennai Super Kings for Rs 20 lakh and the franchise would save a huge amount by retaining him. At the same time, Prithvi Shaw was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 1.2 crore. Apart from these 3 players, the report also states that Rishabh Pant, Devdutt Padikkal, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja are among those who will continue with their current franchises.

Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were also retained ahead of the IPL 2018 mega-auction. This time there will be no right to match card and the franchise will have to take a final call on their players before the auction. At the same time, there is also talk of Hardik Pandya leaving Mumbai Indians and Shreyas Iyer leaving Delhi Capitals in media reports.
