BCCI Issues Strict Orders to State Associations Ahead of IPL 2025

BCCI's Directive: No Ground Usage for IPL Franchises

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued strict guidelines to state cricket associations regarding stadium usage. As per the new directive, IPL franchises will not be allowed to use the grounds for practice sessions before the tournament begins.

BCCI’s main goal is to maintain the stadiums in pristine condition, ensuring that both the pitch and outfield remain in ideal playing conditions for the upcoming IPL matches.

Key Guidelines Issued by BCCI

The BCCI sent an official communication to all IPL centers, stating:

  1. The main square and outfield may be used only for Ranji Trophy knockout matches (if scheduled at the venue).
  2. Under no circumstances should the main pitch or outfield be used for:
    • Local matches
    • Celebrity cricket leagues
    • Legends League games
    • Practice sessions for IPL franchises

This decision is aimed at preserving the pitch quality for the tournament, which is set to begin on March 21, 2025.

Impact on IPL Franchises and Preparations

This directive could disrupt several IPL teams’ pre-season plans, as many franchises typically train on match venues before the tournament begins.

  • Eden Gardens (Kolkata) and other IPL stadiums might not have alternative practice facilities, creating logistical challenges.
  • Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and other state bodies will have to find alternative solutions for team training sessions.

Which Associations Received the Order?

The BCCI sent the directive to major state cricket associations, including:

  • Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA)
  • Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA)
  • Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA)
  • Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA)
  • Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA)
  • Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)
  • Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA)
  • Punjab Cricket Association (PCA)
  • Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA)

Additionally, venues like Guwahati (RR’s alternate home ground) and Dharamsala (PBKS’s alternate home ground) may also be affected.

BCCI’s Strategy for IPL 2025

With 74 matches lined up, including the final on May 25, 2025, the BCCI is prioritizing pitch quality and player safety. While the move ensures that playing conditions remain optimal, it also raises concerns about franchise preparations ahead of the tournament.

The situation remains dynamic, and it will be interesting to see how teams adapt to the new restrictions.
