Jermaine Blackwood Pens A Deal With Jamaica Tallawahs Ahead Of CPL 2020

West Indian batsman Jermaine Blackwood has signed a deal with Jamaica Tallawahs ahead of the upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Bowling all-rounder Ramaal Lewis also makes it to their squad after both the players faced prohibition from partaking in the league. Jermaine Blackwood was part of the tourists’ party in their recently concluded Test series against England.

Jamaican players, namely Andre McCarthy and Jeavor Royal would not be part of this year’s tournament as they came into contact with another Jamaican cricketer, who tested positive for COVID-19. While the duo’s first tests have returned negatives, the protocols state that players must return with two negatives to partake in the competition.

The eighth season of the CPL would be held entirely in Trinidad & Tobago. The Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba will play as hosts for 23 games including the semi-final and final while the Queen Park’s Oval in Trinidad will stage the remaining ten games. All the fixtures are slated to take place behind closed doors and in bio-secure environments.

Jermaine Blackwood’s underwhelming T20 record:

Jermaine Blackwood was probably one of the best batsmen for the West Indies in their losing effort against England in the three-match Test rubber. Jermaine Blackwood struck a fighting 95 in the fourth innings of the first Test in Southampton as the tourists chased down 200 for the win.

He ended with 211 runs in three Tests alongside two fifties at 35.17. However, Blackwood’s T20 record is quite underwhelming, having played 19 games and managing only 168 runs at 12.92. Hence, Jamaica Talllawahs have to bank on the likes of Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, and skipper Rovman Powell.
